Injecting dermal fillers is both an art and a science, requiring a meticulous and tailored approach for each patient. My method, honed over years of practice, revolves around a structured process that prioritizes patient comfort, satisfaction, and safety.
The overall anatomy is always the same, but each patient is different!
Listen
The cornerstone of any successful treatment is listening. Before any procedure, I take the time to understand my patients’ desires and concerns.
Some patients come with a clear vision of what they want, while others are new to fillers and have numerous questions about the types and placements of dermal fillers. By listening attentively, I can tailor the treatment to meet each individual’s unique needs and expectations.
Come Up with a Treatment Plan
After our initial discussion, we develop a personalized treatment plan. This plan considers various factors such as the patient’s facial structure, skin laxity, and desired volume.
It’s important to note that dermal fillers, typically available in 1 cc syringes, do not have a one-size-fits-all application. Some areas may require less filler, while others may need more.
Additionally, fillers can be additive, meaning you don’t have to achieve your desired look in one session; gradual enhancements can be made over time.
Numb
Patient comfort is paramount during the injection process. To minimize pain, I use a custom-formulated numbing cream, ice, and the Nuevibe vibration tool. This combination significantly reduces discomfort, ensuring a more pleasant experience for the patient.
Inject
Once the skin is cleansed with alcohol, I proceed with the precise injection of the dermal filler into the predetermined areas. Thanks to the numbing cream, ice, and Nuevibe technology, most patients report minimal pain during the injections.
Immediately after the injections, I ask patients to apply gauze and ice to the area to alleviate pain and reduce potential bruising and swelling.
Assess
During the injection process, I aim for about 80% correction of the targeted areas. I then pause to show the patient their progress in a mirror. Since the effects of dermal fillers are immediately visible, this pause allows the patient to decide if they are satisfied with the current results or if they would like additional filler.
This step is crucial because adding more filler is straightforward, whereas removing it can be unpredictable and less precise.
Massage
After completing the injections, I massage the treated areas to ensure the filler is evenly distributed and smooth. I also ask patients to make various facial expressions, such as smiling or puckering their lips, to confirm that their overall appearance remains natural and harmonious.
Ice
Applying ice immediately after the procedure is essential to minimize pain and swelling. I advise patients to continue icing the treated areas within the first 24 hours to further reduce any swelling or bruising.
Enjoy
One of the most rewarding aspects of dermal fillers is the instant gratification they provide. Patients can see their results immediately after the procedure, and these results can last anywhere from 12 to 24 months, depending on the type of filler used and its placement.
The process is highly controllable, with patients actively participating in their final outcome, ensuring their satisfaction with the results.
Conclusion
My method of injecting fillers is designed to be patient-centric, focusing on comfort, precision, and satisfaction. By following this structured process, I ensure that each patient receives a treatment plan tailored to their unique needs, resulting in natural, beautiful enhancements that they can enjoy for months to come.
