What is Xeomin?

Xeomin is a great injectable that is a botulinum Type A neurotoxin- meaning that when injected properly, it reduces the strength of the injected muscle.  Typically Xeomin is injected into facial muscles that cause wrinkles, so your wrinkles will look better and possibly disappear.

Xeomin does not last forever, usually about 3-4 months.  The length of effectiveness is the same as Botox and Dysport.

How does Xeomin differ from Botox and Dysport?

Xeomin is a brand name of botulinum toxin used by Merz Aesthetics.  Botox is a brand name used by Allergan, and Dysport is a brand name used by Galderma.  All 3 products are used by injection to make wrinkles less visible and noticeable.

What are the FDA Approved Uses of Xeomin? ( Hint: the Worry Lines Between Your Eyebrows, AKA the Glabella)

Xeomin is FDA approved for use in the glabella: the vertical lines between your eyebrows.

Sometimes these lines are called the “eleven” lines, because the vertical wrinkles look like the number eleven – 11 –  get it?

Xeomin is used “off label” for forehead wrinkles, crows’ feet wrinkles around the eyes, and other areas where there may be wrinkles formed by muscle motion.

How Much Xeomin Do I Need?

Xeomin is given in “units”, so I have to give you a certain number of units to make the muscle less effective in creating wrinkles.

For the glabella, I usually recommend 15-25 units of Xeomin.  Stronger muscles require more Xeomin units, and weaker muscles require fewer units.

Xeomin has a 1:1 relationship with Botox, so if you usually get Botox and know the number of units for each facial area, then generally I would recommend the same number of units of Xeomin.

When Will I See the Results from Xeomin?

Typically you will see some results within 3-4 days.  You will gradually notice that your wrinkles look better, are less deep, and some of them may disappear completely.

These findings are similar to the results in Botox and Dysport.

How Long Will Xeomin Results Last?

Xeomin results will last 3 months or longer, depending on the patient and the area of treatment.  And yes, this is similar to the results in Botox and Dysport.

Can I See Your Results?

Of course!  Here is a quick video of my crows feet after our Nurse Injector,  Emmy Lou, injected me with Xeomin.. You can see that my crows feet are gone after getting 10 units of Xeomin.
