Lip enhancement is common among people with naturally thin lips, lips that have thinned with age, or those who simply want a fuller pout. Through injecting dermal filler, your lips can become proportionate, balanced and luscious.

What Filler Do You Use For Lip Enhancement?

I use hyaluronic acid as my go-to dermal filler for lip enhancement. Hyaluronic Acid filler (HA filler) is a naturally occuring substance found in your joints. It comes packaged in single use syringes for quick and efficient injection in the office.  

There are several brand names for HA filler, with Restylane and Juvederm being the biggest brand names. They all have slightly different properties and longevity, as well as swelling and properties. Some HA fillers have less support and structure for a more subtle result, and others may cause a little more swelling temporarily but will give you more support long term.  We will be able to discuss your preferences based on how much lip tissue you have now and what your want your final results to be.

How Do You Reduce Pain Before Lip Enhancement?

I utilize a triple pain reducing method in my office.

First, I have custom formulated 30% numbing cream – 7 times stronger than what most plastic surgeons use.

Second, I apply ice packs to your lips right before the injection to help numb the nerve sensation in your lips.

Third, I use the Nuevibe device. The Nuevibe provides vibration which, when placed near the area of injection, will distract your body and result in far less pain at the injection site.

How Is The Lip Enhancement Procedure Done?

We will collaborate and strategize together about getting the best results possible for your lips. We will discuss your lip enhancement in terms of lip thickness, height, location of the injections, and how much filler you need to achieve your aesthetic goals.  

After numbing, I will carefully inject your lips with HA filler. I will always STOP about ½ way through, because I want to make sure you are comfortable with the process.  Also, I like to have my patients look in the mirror to help guide me in placing the remainder of the dermal filler. This helps me get the most consistent and aesthetic results in lip beauty.

After we are done with the lip injections, I will gently massage your lips to ensure that there is even and consistent distribution of the filler. You will apply ice to your lips, and then you can apply lipstick, lip gloss, or moisturizer immediately.  

How Long Do Lip Enhancement Results Last?

Typically results will last about 10-12 months.  Dermal filler will eventually be absorbed by your body, and everyone has a different metabolism. Also, any dermal filler injected into a moving muscle, and especially the lips, will be metabolized faster.  

What is the Cost of Lip Enhancement?

Cost varies depending on brand name and amount of filler. The average cost is around $680 for 1 syringe, which has 1.0 cc.  The cost is lower for ½ syringe, which is 0.5 cc.

Can You Help Me With Smoker’s Lines Around My Lips?

There are fillers that are thin and soft enough to fill in the tiny vertical “Smoker’s Lines” around your lips. Whether you are an actual smoker, former smoker, or simply have these lines due to time and sun exposure, eliminating and filling in these lines is possible with certain HA fillers.
