What To Do and What To Avoid Before Your Lip Enhancement Procedure
Before your lip enhancement procedure, avoid anything that causes more bleeding: anti-inflammatory medicine such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and similar medications.
If you use makeup, lipstick, or lip gloss, please bring them to the office so that you can re-apply your favorite products after your procedure is done. I use alcohol to clean the injection area and apply numbing cream there as well, which takes off any makeup you may have been wearing.
Optionally, you can use anti-bruising pills or lotions before your injection. I am not convinced that they work, but they won’t hurt. Most of these products contain arnica or echinacea which boast anti-bruising effects.
What To Expect During Your Lip Enhancement Procedure
Before injection, I use my trademark “3 step” numbing strategy to give you the least amount of discomfort possible. This entails applying a strong numbing cream to the injection site, followed by the application of ice packs and then accompanied by the use of a vibration tool which is placed near the needle entry to distract your body from the feeling of the injection.
Most importantly, before your lip enhancement procedure I go over the process with you and listen to your desires. We set up a plan together before I inject anything!
Also, I always make sure to stop occasionally during your procedure and show you the intermediate results. That way, you have control and a say in how you want your lips to look in the final result.
At the very end of your procedure, you will experience instant gratification because your lips will look enhanced, rejuvenated, beautiful, and will last for many months. Unlike botox which takes 4-7 days to work, dermal filler works instantly.
How to Take Care Of Your Lips After Your Lip Enhancement Procedure
Your lips will want to swell right after your lip injections are done. To have as minimal swelling as possible, I recommend using ice packs and taking ibuprofen after your procedure.
Avoid strenuous exercise right after your lip enhancement procedure.
At night when you go to bed, put several pillows under your head. This helps your head to be above your heart level, and will help to reduce swelling.
