Microneedling is the latest trend, though it’s actually been around for decades. The process involves using tiny needles to puncture small holes in the top layers of the skin, most commonly on the face. This may sound like it’s been taken from the latest Saw movie, however the process as well as the healing is nearly painless!

Microneedling is used to stimulate collagen growth to treat redness, acne scarring, hyper-pigmentation, wrinkles and more. The holes created in the skin allow PRP  (Platelet-Rich Plasma) as well as various serums to absorb deep into the skin, as opposed to merely siting on the skin, unabsorbed.

While Microneedling alone stimulates collagen growth to improve the appearance of scars, wrinkles, skin texture and more, adding PRP provides patients with more effective results. It involves drawing the patient’s blood and spinning it in a centrifuge which separates the PRP from the blood. This PRP, AKA Liquid Gold, is then put onto the skin and the Microneedling pen is used to drive it into the deeper layers of skin.

When you arrive for a Microneedling treatment, you are numbed with lidocaine cream on your face for 15-20 minutes. If you choose, you can have your blood drawn and spun to get PRP while you are numbing. Next, you can sit back and relax as the Microneedling pen glides over your face, in a process that lasts for about 20 minutes.

The recovery for Microneedling is about 1 to 2 days of down time and then a few weeks to see more improvements in overall skin texture and pigmentation. Your face will be slightly pink and swollen for 24-48 hours after, but easily covered with makeup.

Most patients need a minimum of 3-4 Microneedling sessions for wrinkles, large pores, and skin texture improvement. Patients with acne usually need 6 sessions to reduce active acne and reduce acne scarring.
