Warning- May be NSFW/ not suitable for work. "You can see what we call 'peau d'orange' or 'orange peel', which is what we want in tumescent fluid before we start the actual liposuction." I am injecting the fat with tumescent fluid before starting the actual liposuction. This fluid slows down bleeding, allowing me to remove the maximal amount of fat possible with the least amount of blood. You can see the skin does look like an orange peel- this is a visual clue that tells me that I have injected enough tumescent fluid in one area and I can go to another area. It's important to wait at least 10-15 minutes after the tumescent fluid is injected before starting liposuction. Tumsecent fluid is the “secret sauce” of liposuction. It sounds weird- why would I inject fluid INTO the area of fat when I’m supposed to remove the fat?

Well, the tumescent fluid allows me to remove even more fat with a lot less bleeding and bruising. I inject tumescent fluid into all of the areas that I want to do liposuction. The skin puffs out to look like an orange peel. In plastic surgery temrs it’s called “peau d’orance” (French for orange peel).

A key secret here- I have to wait 10-15 minutes for the tumescent fluid to kick in! Many plastic surgeons are impatient, and just start doing liposuction immediately. Good things come to those that wait- because after 10-15 minutes, the fat that I suction out is yellow-white in appearance, and is mainly fat with very little blood.

My patients have faster fat extraction, with less pain and swelling and bruising after surgery, thanks to tumescent fluid AND because I wait long enough for the tumescent fluid to work.
