What is PRP?
PRP – Platelet Rich Plasma – is your own blood that has been removed by IV, placed in a test tube, and then spun or centrifuged. The resulting blood in the test tube has a golden yellow portion at the top, and very red blood at the bottom.
The clear yellow part – PRP (also known as Liquid Gold) – has concentrated platelets and other healing factors that help in regeneration of certain cells and tissues that are important in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, including collagen, skin, and hair.
What Does PRP Do?
PRP has healing factors which help rejuvenate the skin when used with microneedling at the same time.
PRP has been shown to enhance HA fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane, and may help with collagen deposition and better looking skin in the overlying areas of injection.
PRP injected into areas of hair loss, in both men and women, will regenerate hair.
Are You a Good Candidate for PRP?
As listed above, PRP is a great enhancement for microneedling and dermal fillers. There is an additional cost and it will take a little extra time to do your procedure, because it takes time to draw your blood and process it to get PRP.
PRP injection for hair loss is a unique procedure, and coupled with microneedling, will help your hair to grow back.
How Is PRP Used With Dermal Fillers?
PRP is injected right after I am done injecting your dermal filler. This should result in an enhanced result with more collagen growth.
How is PRP Used with Hair Loss?
PRP is injected into your scalp and areas of your head with hair loss. Then, it is spread over the area of hair loss and microneedling is done to drive in the PRP into the skin.
How is PRP Used in Microneedling?
PRP is spread over your skin, and then microneedling is done immediately so that your PRP is driven into your skin. The result is better looking skin and quicker healing.
How Long Will Your Results Last?
With PRP and microneedling, your facial skin should look better for 6-12 months or longer. The variables include how good your skin quality is now, how much protection you have for your skin, and how many PRP + microneedling sessions you have.
PRP with HA fillers should extend the life of your HA fillers by 3-6 months. HA fillers last different amounts of time – anywhere from 6-24 months – so the PRP should add several months of wrinkle fighting effect.
PRP for hair loss should last for years, and you will probably need maintenance treatment every 6-12 months.
How Long Does it take to Recover?
PRP + microneedling typically may need 24 hours or less to recover.
PRP with HA fillers has the same recovery time as just HA filler injection, usually meaning there is little to no down time.
PRP for hair loss also has little down time, and typically you can go back to work or life the next day.
How Do I Make a Consultation?
Call my office at (415) 362-1846 or email info@drkim.com, and my Patient Care Coordinator will get you started!
Consultations typically take 45-60 minutes, and I do the entire consultation personally, without the use of a nurse or helper to vet your questions and concerns without me present. Consultations are $150, and the cost of the consultation goes towards the cost of surgery when you decide to book your procedure.
