A chemical peel is a very individualized procedure in which your goals should be realistically determined and discussed with San Francisco physician Dr. Kim. Together you will determine which procedure will be performed. A chemical peel is often performed in conjunction with other procedures such as a face lift because the peel procedure is not a replacement for surgery. Once your goals have been determined, you will set a date for this procedure in San Francisco and will be given instructions about how to prepare.
When the date for your chemical peel in San Francisco has arrived, you should plan on the procedure taking anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours depending on which procedures you are having performed. Several chemical peel procedures are available depending on the needs of the patient. An AHA treatment is the lightest treatment and is for acne problems, smoothing of the skin, and pigment problems. The TCA treatment will additionally smooth out wrinkles and blemishes. The phenol peel is for course wrinkles and blemishes and generally requires a significantly longer recovery time, and side effects of the procedure are more dramatic. With all procedures, the patient should avoid over-exposure to sunlight and should carry protection as advised by the physician.
The AHA procedures do not require recovery time in which the patient should not engage in activity. TCA procedures may require a week to ten days while the Phenol procedure may require two weeks. These procedures do not require anesthesia, and discomfort is limited to only a mild tingling feeling upon application.
