An upper eyelid lift, a lower eyelid lift, or both, should last for several years, if not longer. It is difficult to quantify in exact terms, because it depends on your operation as well as your overall skin tone and health.
An upper eyelid lift is usually done to remove excess loose skin, remove fat that is giving a hooded appearance to your upper eyelid, or both. A lower eyelid lift can also remove loose skin and excess fat, but usually has more removal of fat and less removal of excess skin.
If your operation is mainly to remove fat, you should have a long-lasting result. The fact that you do not need much skin tightening with your eyelid lift implies that you did not have that much loose skin before your operation. Hopefully, this will translate into tighter skin that existed before you had your eyelid lift.
Assuming you take good care of your skin, avoid the sun, and avoid other diseases that cause slower wound healing, the results of your surgery should last for years. The surgical incisions are very difficult to see, since the upper eyelid incision is in the upper eyelid, and the lower eyelid incision is just underneath the eyelash line.
Several methods are possible to retain eyelid skin tightness. They include
– skin care, such as Retin-A and other skin tightening products
– laser resurfacing, which tightens the skin
– chemical peel, with care taken to avoid the globe, or eyeball
An eyelid lift surgery can turn back the hands of time, but remember, the clock keeps on ticking!
