Enjoy Your New Look with a Facelift
Patients who desire a face lift in San Francisco may have noticed the effects of age, gravity, exposure to sunlight, and the stresses of life all taking their toll on a person’s face.
Deep creases often develop around the nose, eyes, and mouth, an individual’s jaw line may begin to sag, and fat deposits accumulate throughout the neck region. Such factors may affect an individual’s confidence, leading them to seek their own face lift in San Francisco.
A face lift can help such individuals restore youthful vibrancy and energy to the face. The effects of time are virtually undone to restore an individual’s face and to remove many of the effects of time and aging. San Francisco plastic surgeon/ cosmetic surgeon Roy Kim, MD accomplishes such effects by working with wrinkles, tightening the skin, removing fat deposits, and by tightening the underlying muscles of the face. This not only helps to restore the physical appearance of the patient, but also restores self-confidence and respect to the patient.
Am I a Candidate for a Facelift?
The best candidates for facelift are patients who:
- take good care of their skin
- have no need for non-surgical procedures
- are educated about what to expect during and after surgery
- know how to take care of themselves after their procedure
- have realistic expectations
A face lift is a very individualized procedure in which your goals should be realistically determined and discussed with San Francisco physician Roy Kim, MD. Together you will determine what specific procedures will be performed. A face lift is often performed in conjunction with other procedures such as a brow lift, nose job, or eye surgery. Once your goals have been determined you will set a date for this procedure in San Francisco and will be given instructions about how to prepare.
The Facelift Procedure
When the date for your face lift in San Francisco has arrived, you should plan on the surgery taking several hours or more depending on which procedures you are having performed. There is no set procedure for how a face lift is performed, as each individual’s face is different and may have different requirements. However, many cosmetic surgeons will determine the best placement for incisions used to remove fat deposits and to tighten skin and muscle tissues. Incisions are often placed in the scalp so that they will be less visible, and if work is done on the neck area, the incision is usually placed under the chin.
The skin and muscle tissues will often be separated so that fat deposits can be removed to improve the overall shape of the face. San Francisco cosmetic surgeon Dr. Kim will then tighten the muscle and skin tissues and remove any excess skin. Finally, the skin is pulled back into position and pinned in place. All procedures are performed with anesthesia to minimize any discomfort or pain.
What is the best way to help someone else recover from a surgical facelift? It is normal to feel some anxiety about plastic surgery, but educating yourself and knowing what to expect before, during and after a facelift is an important first step. But by educating yourself before the surgery about what to expect, you can reduce your anxiety and speed up your recovery time.
Facelift surgery may take 1-2 weeks to heal enough to go back to the office and be able to put make-up on. There are several tips that I give to my patients to help them heal faster.
Risks Involved with a Facelift
A facelift is a surgical procedure to rejuvenate the facial structures and the skin, so that you still look like yourself, but more rejuvenated. Just like any other surgical procedure, there are risks involved with a facelift, and they include bleeding, scar formation, infection, a result that is too tight or too loose, injury to facial structures, and reactions to anesthesia.
