If you have noticed deep wrinkles in the folds on the side of your mouth, or are concerned about the vertical lines between your eyebrows, you may be a candidate for a dermal filler injection. The most common ones are Artefill®, Restylane®, and Juvederm^TM.

Artefill is a new product that Cathleen and Dr. Kim are excited to introduce. The advantage of Artefill is that you see an immediate result, just like with other dermal fillers, PLUS you will have new collagen actually grow into your deep fold or wrinkle. Artefill is a dermal filler that has been shown to have an effect that lasts for at least 5 years, and may be permanent.

Artefill consists of collage and PMMA microspheres. The PMMA microspheres induce your body to produce its own collagen. This collagen production allows your deep wrinkle to fade, and to stay that way for years. Since collagen is a key ingredient in Artefill, you will need to be allergy tested with a tiny injection in your forearm and wait 30 days to make sure that you are not allergic to collagen. After the allergy test is negative, Artefill can be injected in the office on your second visit.

Although Artefill is a new product, it is injected in a similar fashion to other dermal fillers. Cathleen and Dr. Kim have extensive experience with dermal fillers, and have already injected several patients with Artefill with excellent results.

Getting a single injection of Artefill will allow you NOT to get injections every 6 months, as needed with a Restylane or Juvederm injection. If you have any reservations about a permanent dermal filler, or have never had a dermal filler injected, we would recommend that you get injected with a temporary dermal filler such as Restylane or Juvederm first.

Restylane and Juvederm are dermal fillers that do not require allergy testing. Both products are injected in the office, and should last about 6 to 9 months. They are made from hyaluronic acid, so no allergy testing is needed - you can get an injection on your first office visit. The only drawback is that you will need approximately 8 to 10 injections over the next five years to get the same result as one injection of Artefill.
