    Dermal Fillers in General

Dermal Fillers are great products that can fill in deep wrinkles in your face.  The most common wrinkles filled are in the nasolabial folds, or “parentheses” lines around your mouth.  There are a multitude of products available that are easy to inject in an office setting.

The most popular products last for about 12 months.  If you want something to last longer, there are other choices, including Radiesse, Sculptra, Artefill, and even fat grafting.  However, for now, the longest lasting dermal filler not requiring surgery is Artefill.

    Artefill’s Advantages

Artefill is an office procedure, doesn’t require surgery or sedation, and is a very natural feeling dermal filler.  The biggest advantage is that it lasts for 5 years, or 60 months!

Where in the Face is Artefill Given?

The FDA approved area is in the nasolabial fold area, or the “parentheses” lines around the mouth.  It is also given in other areas of the face as “off-label” use by individual doctors, such as in the lines below your lips, on the sides of your mouth.

What are the Risks of Artefill Injection?

Artefill needs allergy testing before getting the actual Artefill.  Artefill has 2 components-  collagen and PMMA micrcospheres.  The collagen is what gives Artefill the initial “plumping”.  The PMMA microspheres stick around much longer, and help to induce your own body to generate your own collagen to fill in a deep wrinkle.  If you’re allergic to collagen, then you should not get Artefill.

    About_Artefill_1

Other risks of Artefill are similar to other dermal fillers, including lumps or bumps, asymmetry, and localized skin reactions.  Every patient is different, and of course I strive to achieve no complications, but it’s important to know about your risks before getting a product that will last for 5 years or more.

    How Much Does Artefill Cost?

Artefill is about 2 times the cost of typical dermal fillers, but will last 5 times longer than other fillers.  The initial cost is much higher, but the overall cost over many years is substantially lower.  Please call my office for pricing at 415 362 1846, or email me at info@drkim.com.

    Who Does Your Artefill Injection?

I do!  I’m a plastic surgeon, and I enjoy giving dermal injectables, especially for dermal fillers that last so long.  I don’t have a nurse injector or other doctor give your Artefill.

Where Can I Sign Up for Artefill?

If you have any further questions, or want to set up a consultation, please contact me at info@drkim.com or 415 362 1836.  I look forward to meeting you in person.
